Ukrainian Afternoon at the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek

On 2 July 2022, Kul’tura e.V. organised a special afternoon dedicated to Ukrainian literature and culture at the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek in Berlin. The event marked the presentation of around 2,000 Ukrainian-language books for children and adults, purchased, transported and donated to Berlin’s public library network with financial support from the Rotary Club Berlin-Süd and the German Publishers and Booksellers Association.

The programme brought together literature, music and community activities. Ukrainian writers Sofia Andrukhovych, Oleksandr Irvanets, Andriy Lyubka and Valeria Shashenok discussed the role of literature during wartime. The afternoon also included a bandura concert by Zori Ameliko, a reading and conversation with Valeria Shashenok, and a programme for children and young people organised together with the Ukrainian scouting organisation PLAST. The literary events were held in German and Ukrainian.
